(JC)  JOO CHIAT  |  shophouse

Singapore

Located in the chaotic, heritage district of Joo Chiat, this project sees the transformation of an old, dilapidated shophouse into a private retreat for a young family with 2 small kids. Given its conservation status, the facade was painstakingly restored, and the interior was given a whole new life with its open planning, while retaining much of its original character with elements like the central airwell, balconies and cross ventilation. New interventions were carefully considered to have a modern aesthetic while at the same time working within this raw palette.
