(dP) | two-storey apartment

Singapore

At the end of an uphill winding road was a secluded gem that we found for our Client, who had recently moved here with his young family. With a full frontage that faces a considerable private garden terrace, overlooking the sea port in a far distance, it is hard to believe that this is actually a two-storey apartment unit (not house!) in land scarce Singapore. On the main level, communal spaces blend seamlessly in an airy open-plan layout, easy viewing for the Mrs who can spot the kids from Kitchen to Dining, to Living, to Garden. Storage is maximised with innovative joinery and multiple camouflaged doors, amongst which the kids could play endless rounds of hide and seek. Having a slight curve facade that was inherent to the overall building, we accentuated this feature by creating new dividing walls, openings, carpentry and stairs to reflect this playful geometry, while keeping a calm and neutral material palette. Our aim was to create a timeless home, an oasis where the family can bond and retreat from the busy city life.
